Better Late than Never

I've been enjoying everybody's self-portraits as teenagers and as their current selves (although really, I would not mind seeing more of them from people who were teenagers more than five years ago).

So I finally did one.

Mine was actually pretty tricky, since I have always been a relatively self-consistent little Martian. I asked Bill what has changed about me, and his comment was (after a long pause) "...you wear more earth tones now."

I was a teenager about 15 years ago, but I can't draw at all. Also, I'm not sure I could remember what I used to wear back then. I just didn't care about clothes.

Those pants you wore during Stumptown were a nice blast from the past. Also, smile-lines? I hadn't even noticed. Jesus.

Only when I try to make them show up. But believe me I would totally draw them in with pen if I could! Permanent smile lines by 2010 is my goal!

To be fair, Bill mostly saw me at conventions, where I would up the Perky Goth quotient by 30%.

Ditto on that. How could you wear MORE earthtones?! you must have started wearing mud.

This year I've tried to integrate red and blue. Just as an experiment.

Yeah, as a teenager I wasn't very incredible at drawing. Now I'm just aware of the fact ^_^ I daresay I have a lot more humility now, and neutral tones, but just as much social awkwardness and nose-in-bookishness. But this project (my laziness at scanning hasn't changed either) was an interesting way to look back on what has and hasn't changed.

Though I agree...where are all the oldsters?

If the crazy didn't escape in your teens, it's going to happen when you're older. Which will make it all the more endearing and adorable.

I think it's more that I've always been crazy. There's kind of nowhere to go unless I suddenly start wearing pantsuits.

God, let it not come to that.

Ankle bracelets (with charms!) and platforms or something. But not pantsuits.
